Express Scripts is a Missouri-based pharmacy benefit management company and is one of Missouri’s largest corporations. Nexus Group has represented Express Scripts since 2009. ESI and other PBMs exist to ensure that their customers (businesses, organizations and governments) are getting the very best pharmacy benefits and technology for their employees. Often this cuts into the profits of independent pharmacists and pharmaceutical manufacturers. As a result, each year, pharmacists and pharmaceutical manufacturers try to disrupt the PBM business model.
Nexus Group has been successful in defending ESI’s business model in Missouri by ensuring that not a single piece of legislation that would harm ESI’s customers, becomes law. Nexus Group does this by employing these strategies:
1. Build champions in both chambers by educating them about PBMs and ESI;
2. Work closely with the Pharmacy Association and pharmaceutical manufacturers when necessary to find a compromise that will work for all involved; and
3. Monitor legislation and amendments closely to guarantee no anti-PBM language makes it to the governor’s desk.
